Orphanage Volunteer Program in Ecuador

Volunteer at an orphanage in Quito - EcuadorVolunteering Solutions offers  a wonderful and challenging opportunity for the volunteers to work with disadvantaged children in orphanage projects.

In Ecuador, there are orphanages in different parts of the country and most of them are run by church without the support of the government.Children end up at the orphanages due to different reasons but most of them are due to stories involving drugs, alcohol and abuse.

We place volunteers in the capital city of Quito as well as in Cuenca, which is the capital of Azuay Province and one of the most historically important parts of the country.

While in Quito, volunteers work in southern and northern part of Quito. The children in the orphanages are in the age group of 1-12 years. Volunteers normally are  normally asked to help in basic English teaching as well as taking care of the children.

As a big part of this program is a social part the volunteers are needed to just be around the orphans to play with them as well as looking after them and make sure they don’t do anything they shouldn´t. This takes form in many different ways as some children might like soccer and games whilst other children prefer painting or dancing and many times volunteers are welcome to prepare activities or to grab a few children and start a soccer game. Volunteers are also encouraged to be proactive and can teach any new game to the children as well.

Another big part of the work at the orphanages is the daily work that takes place constantly around the orphans and in the background. This is for example helping children to the bathroom, change diapers, help cooking, do the dishes, wash clothing, clean bathrooms and bedrooms etc. During lunch and snack breaks volunteers will help serving food, maybe help feeding smaller children and of course to help teaching good manners as well as showing how to help with cleaning dishes.

In Cuenca, the age group of children varies from toddlers to 14 years old. Volunteers need to assist with taking care of the children as well as helping the orphanage staff in different activities and tasks.
