What documents do I need to submit with my application?
You need to submit an online application at www.volunteeringsolutions.com/apply_now.htm .
Application form can also be downloaded from the website and sent by fax or post.
You need to submit a photo and your resume along with your application.
How long does it take to process my application?
The application process takes 10 working days -occasionally longer (given the time of year). However, in the event that interested participants require their application expedited due to time constraints, they are requested to contact our office prior to submitting their application.
Where are the Programs located in Ghana?
The Programs are located in Volta, Kumasi, and Tamale in Ghana.
When do I need to arrive in Ghana for my program?
You can come one day in advance from your program starting date.
Do I need a VISA for Ghana? Yes, you need to apply for a Tourist Visa before going to Ghana. The Visa is valid for 3 months and costs GBP 30.
Please visit www.embassiesabroad.com to check your nearest Ghanaian Embassy.
If you decide to stay longer in Ghana, you can extend your visa after you arrive. Extension is obtained from the immigration department in Ghana.
Which airport do I need to book my flights to? You need to book your flights to Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. Regular flights are available from Europe and North America to Accra.
What should I do if my flight is delayed? Please inform your Country Coordinator and inform him of the delayed arrival time. If possible, send a mail to the coordinator and to the main office as well.
If I want to arrive earlier than my program start date, where do I stay and who will organize the accommodations?
You will be responsible for the accommodation and food, if you arrive several days earlier than your start date. (Arrive one day before start date)
You must contact the coordinator and meet at some designated place.
When will I know specific details of my placement?
Once you have applied, we will send you details of your placement usually within 10 working days.
What are the accommodation arrangements like?
We provide you with accommodation from your start date to the end of the program. Accommodation will either be in a host family or arranged at your program location itself. You will have your own room, which you might share with another volunteer. You should bring along things like, mosquito net, mosquito repellent, towels and your own soaps and shampoos.
What will be the food arrangement?
Volunteers are provided with 3 meals during the day. The meals are prepared by the host families or the project staff.
Local Ghanaian Food will be served to Volunteers.
Will there be other foreign volunteers at my placement? Usually there are some volunteers at the placements, but it totally depends on the time period of the year during which you wish to volunteer.
You can volunteer along with your friends or group and can be accommodated in the same accommodation or nearby accommodation.
We do not guarantee that there would always be some foreign volunteers at your placement.
What are the Laundry arrangements?
You need to wash your clothes on your own.
How is the Climate in Ghana?
Ghana has a generally mild tropical climate. The rainfall range 30 to 80 Inches a year, Temperatures range between (21°C and 32°C), Humidity range are 50 to 80%. . The coolest time of the year is between June and September when the main rainfall occurs. Variations in temperature both annually and daily are quite small. The minimum temperature is around 23C (73F).It is warm and comparatively dry along southeast coast; hot and humid in southwest; hot and dry in north. Dry desert wind, blows from the northeast from December to March, lowering the humidity and creating hot days and cool nights in the north. In most areas the highest temperatures occur in March, the lowest in August.
What vaccinations/immunizations are required?
If you are traveling from a country where yellow fever is present you will need to take a yellow fever vaccination.The Major Vaccinations required for Ghana is for Malaria and Yellow Fever. Several vaccinations are highly recommended, they include:

- Cholera
Contact your doctor several weeks before you travel and seek advice regarding the vaccinations to take.
How safe is Ghana? Despite numerous political problems in other West African countries, Ghana is a very safe country. Crime is much lower than in other African states, and indeed much lower than in many western countries. Ghanaians are also very friendly toward foreigners, and treat them as welcome guests in their country. Many people will greet you throughout Ghana with the phrase "Akwaaba" or "Woezor"- meaning welcome in Twi and Ewe, the most commonly spoken local language.
Are credit cards accepted in Ghana?
Major Credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Master and Visa are accepted at the local large hotels and tourist shops. Cash can be withdrawn from International Banks ATM, but surcharge is charged. Always keep some cash handy.
What hours will I volunteer every day?
Volunteers usually work for 5-6 hours a day depending on their program. You will have weekend off so you can go to travel on weekends. However some organizations will need you to work on some Saturdays as well.
Are we able to do any sightseeing or travelling in weekends?
You will usually have 2 free days per week, you can utilize this time for anything you like. All costs are at the volunteer's expense.
Do I need travel insurance?
