When do I need to arrive in Ghana for my program? |

You can come one day in advance from your program starting date. |

What will happen once I arrive in Ghana? |

Our staff will be there to meet and greet you at the airport and from there you will be taken to the project or hostel depending on the time of your arrival. |

Once you have applied, we will send you details of your placement usually within 10 working days.

How do I get to the program location? |

Your country coordinator will take you to your placement and introduce you to everyone after giving you a basic orientation about the program/city/culture etc. |

I want to know more about accommodation arrangements? |
Ans. |
We provide you with accommodation from your start date to the end of the program. Accommodation will either be in a host family or arranged at your program location itself. You will have your own room, which you might share with another volunteer. You should bring along things like, mosquito net, mosquito repellent and your own soaps and shampoos.

What will be the food arrangement? |
Ans. |
You will get freshly cooked food 2/3 times a day depending on your program. Food is usually vegetarian as non vegetarian food is seldom cooked in most Ghanai households. |

Yes and if you are vegan this will not be a problem. |

What is the age range to volunteer? |
Ans. |
You must be 16 years or older to volunteer. The maximum age limit is 55 yrs. We also allow people below 16 (till 14yrs) if they are accompanied by an adult. |

What immunizations/vaccinations will I need? |

We recommend you speak to your doctor before coming. The following are recommended vaccinations:
- Tetanus and diphtheria
- Polio
- Hepatitis A and B
- Typhoid
- Rabies
- Japanese B encephalitis
- Tuberculosis recommended if living with local people for 3 months.

Can couples or families join the volunteer program? |
Ans. |
You can come in couples or groups as long as most people are above 18. We cannot accommodate anyone below the age of 16 even if they are accompanied by a family. |

Are there more expenses once I arrive in Ghana? |
Ans. |
Your program fee covers you for food and accommodation. You will need to cover yourself for your personal expenses, such as traveling, telephone, internet, shopping, sightseeing etc. Traveling within Ghana is cheap; however, you should carry at least $50 per week for yourself. |

Where can I change my money in Ghana? |

You can change money in any bank or at the airport by showing your passport. |

Will I have an opportunity to get to know the location in which my project is based and see the surrounding areas?

Yes. Although you are committed to specific volunteer schedules, we make sure that you have free time to explore and get to know the local culture and attractions. |

How can I get a visa? |
Ans. |
All volunteers are advised to contact the Ghanaian High Commission or Consulate in their country and apply for a tourist visa before traveling to Ghana. If you decide to stay longer in Ghana, you can extend your visa after you arrive. Extension is obtained from the immigration department in Ghana.
It is Volunteers responsibility to get the visa themselves.

Ghana as a country has its own visa policies, and these policies vary according to the nationality of the visitor. For most countries you can get a tourist visa with little or no problem. How Safe is Ghana? |

Despite numerous political problems in other West African countries, Ghana is a very safe country. Crime is much lower than in other African states, and indeed much lower than in many western countries. Ghanaians are also very friendly toward foreigners, and treat them as welcome guests in their country. Many people will greet you throughout Ghana with the phrase "Akwaaba" or "Woezor"- meaning welcome in Twi and Ewe, the most commonly spoken local language. |

Do I need to be able to speak a foreign language in order to join the program? |

In Ghana, people speak English, so communication should not be a problem. For volunteers interested in exploring local language and culture, Volunteering Solutions organizes a 2-week extensive language and cultural program.
Because we believe that learning a bit of the local language will make your experience more interesting, productive, and meaningful. Volunteering Solutions makes it easy for you to learn the language of your host country by scheduling language instruction around your volunteer work. However, knowledge of a foreign language is not a requirement on any of our projects. |

Are there ATM’s in Ghana? |

There are few ATM’s in Ghana. You will find plenty of ATM’s specially in the tourist areas of Ghana. |

Is there phone and internet available on projects? |

Yes there is usually a phone at every placement we provide. However you will have to use Internet café’s to use Internet. It is strongly recommended that you carry a mobile phone while traveling to Ghana. You can get international roaming or can simply buy a local sim card from the airport when you arrive.

What hours will I volunteer every day? |
Ans. |
Volunteers usually work for 5‐6 hours a day depending on their program. You will have weekend off so you can go to travel on weekends. However some organizations will need you to work on some Saturdays as well. |

Are we able to do any sightseeing or traveling in weekends? |
Ans. |
You will usually have 2 free days per week, you can utilize this time for anything you like. All costs are at the volunteer's expense.
