Volunteer Orphanage Program in HondurasVolunteers working in the Orphanage program work with local orphans and share their love and warmth with the needy children. Volunteers teach Basic English conversational skills and computers to the children so that they can slowly develop the courage and confidence to face the challenging world where English is becoming more and more necessary. You can assist with various activities including games, sports, teaching, hygiene & education. You will also assist the local staff and helping them in administration work wherever possible. Typical volunteer duties include:- » Teach Basic English and Computers » Organize team games » Help orphans with their homework » Drawing and Coloring Volunteers work for around 5 hrs in a day for 5 days in a week. Daily volunteers schedule can vary and is flexible. |
Program InformationProgram Requirements
Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the beginning of the program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. You need to have at least a basic level of Spanish to enroll in this program. (Spanish lessons are available at an extra cost). Project Location The project placements are located in and around the city of La Ceiba. Most of the volunteer projects are located at within close proximity to the accommodations. La Ceiba is the third largest city in Honduras. •Located on the north coast of Honduras bordering the Caribbean Sea and a blue-green mountain range rain forest. •It is a charming and safe port city. •Just a short ride by ferry boat to the beautiful Bay Islands, famous for their snorkeling and scuba diving |
What we provideAirport Receive/ Transfer: Volunteers are picked up from the Goloson International Airport in La Ceiba by the local coordinator or representative. You can also arrive by bus from San Pedro Sula and will be picked up at the bus station in La Ceiba.
Orientation: All volunteers are given an Orientation beginning on their project start date. Orientation is conducted by the local coordinator and covers topics such as Honduran Customs, Rules and Expectations, Safety and Introduction to your project and placement. Lodging: All Volunteers are provided private accommodation with local host families. All host family accommodations are located in good, safe neighborhoods and are in close proximity to the projects, most of the times. Staying with a local family , you will experience the local culture, customs and way of living of the local people in Honduras. Food: Volunteers are provided with three cooked meals a day at the host family house. The meals consist of both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian dishes. Insurance: All participants are covered for full comprehensive Travel and Medical insurance for their time of stay in our project. To view a copy of the Insurance Coverage provided, please click here In-country support: 24 hours support provided by our local staff. You will be provided with the contact details of the local coordinator and staff who will be contactable 24 hrs once you are in country. Pre-departure information: After we receive full and final payment all participants are provided by a pre-departure information booklet by e-mail which will have all vital information about your program. The Pre Departure Information Booklet provides the complete details of the country, project locations, Visas, Immunizations, Things to Pack list, Accommodations, Contact Information etc. During your Free Time La Ceiba has plenty to offer for everyone. There are lots of fun extracurricular activities for the weekends, including scuba diving, snorkeling in the Bay Islands of Utila or Roatan,White water rafting, Canopy Zip line, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Horse Back riding, Dancing Salsa lessons, cooking Latin food lessons, among others. |
