Volunteer in Peru FAQs
1.-What kind of volunteer programs are available?
We provide volunteering programs in the areas of Childcare, Teaching, Working with Street Children , Medical / Healthcare and Construction.
2.-When will I know specific details about my placement?
Once you have applied, we will send you details of your placement usually within 10 working days.
3.-When do I need to arrive in Peru?
You can come one day in advance from your program starting date.You will be met at the airport or bus station by the coordinator or representative.
4.-Do I need to speak Spanish to become a volunteer?
Since, Spanish is the official language in Peru , it is recommended that you should have atleast some basic Spanish knowledge.You can avail of the Spanish Lessons provided by our coordinators at a very reasonable cost in Peru. .Intermediate knowledge of Spanish is required in the Health / Medical Programs.
5.-What age do you have to be to volunteer?
You must be 17+ years old and above. There is no upper age limit. You just have to be in good health.
6.-What immunizations/vaccines will I need?
We recommend you speak to your doctor before coming. A list of recommended vaccinations is provided in the Pre departure Guide provided to volunteers.
7.-What are the living arrangements when volunteering?
You are provided with accommodation which is covered by the program fee. During the volunteering you will be accommodated in a home stay or volunteer residence.
8.-What will be the food arrangement?
You will get freshly cooked food 3 times a day depending on your program. Food is usually vegetarian and a mix of meat and salads.
9.-Do you make provision for vegetarians?
Yes we can make specific arrangements for vegetarians if informed in advance
10.-Can couples or families join the volunteer program?
Yes, couples and families are welcome to join our programs.
11.-Are we able to do any sightseeing while volunteering?
You will usually have 2 free days per week, you can utilize this time for anything you like. All costs are at the volunteer's expense.Volunteers can also choose to take a bit longer break if they want to go for treks or excursions to places such as Macchu Picchu.
12.-Are there more expenses once I arrive?
Your program fee covers you for food, accommodation and insurance.You will need to cover yourself for your personal expenses, such as travelling, telephone, internet, shopping, sightseeing etc.
13.-How safe is it to volunteer in Peru?
Peru is generally a safe country. We work very hard to ensure you are placed in safe environments while volunteering.
14.-Are there any time of the year that I cannot volunteer?
Our volunteering programs are open throughout the year. Since January, February, March are school holidays so placements are limited to areas where schools are open or where teaching can be done in learning centers.
