Peru is situated on the Western side of South America, facing the South Pacific Ocean and bordered by Ecuador and Colombia in the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east and Chile to the south. It has a population of around 28 million people.It is home to World famous tourist sites like Macchu Picchu,Lake Titicaca and the Andes mountains.Peru is the 19th largest country in the world. It also has some of the most spectacular and varied scenery in South America. The Peruvian Andes are arguably the most beautiful on the continent and the mountains are home to millions of highland Indians, who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and maintain a traditional way of life.

Peruvian territory was home to the Norte Chico civilization, one of the oldest in the world, and to the Inca Empire. Although Peru has rich natural resources and many great places to visit, many of the people live in poor conditions. 43% of the population lives under the poverty line.
