Volunteer Working With Street Kids Program in Peru

Volunteers can bring smile on the faces of these disadvantaged street children by helping to create an environment conducive for their holistic development in order to enable them become a part of mainstream society . Volunteers can work at the contact points, being run by various organizations, which serve as day care centers for these street children. They can assist in providing love, care, basic literacy, recreation and most importantly spend time and shower affection on them. It can make a world of difference to their lives.

General Info about Program:

  • The children are aged between 7 and 14 years. 
  • An approximately of 45 kids per centre.
  • There are five street kids’ centres around the city.
  • Most of the kids are going to schools (morning or afternoon)
  • The 85% live with their families
  • The 15% live in groups on the streets or parks.
  • 100% come from background situations
  • 95 % are bad educated
  • All of them use bad words between them to communicate
  • They are usually called by nicknames. (please call them by their names)
  • The street kid’s centres are really basic; there are old chairs, old tables, a few teaching materials, and basic books.
  • Those centres are located in public markets, cemeteries, wash cars, or in depressed areas.
Volunteers bring various educational activities to the streets and markets where children work. Volunteers prepare academic, artistic and social activities for street and working children. Volunteers (in groups of 2 to 4).

This program aims to establish positive mentoring relationships with these neglected children, to encourage them to return to school and to assist them with immediate problems. Volunteers should be willing to get down and dirty working with children out of doors.
Volunteers wanting to work in this project must have confidence and at least an intermediate level of Spanish in order to give the children as much help as possible.

Working With Street KidsYour Role in the Program.

Your role is to check that the kids have completed the homework set to them by their teachers.  Once they have completed this you can help them with more general work for subjects such as maths, Spanish, English, Craft activities, etc.

Volunteers can help them in their daily life,teach them,prepare different activities for them, play games with them and most importantly , bring a bit joy to their life.

Working With Street Kids Skills and Educational Requirements.

There is no educational requirement for this project; anyone with a heart to help is welcome on this project!

However knowledge of Spanish is required. If you do not know Spanish you can join our Spanish classes before you start your program or take classes everyday while volunteering. We also provide basic Spanish translations in our pre departure info. People should be patient, committed and willing to learn.
