The City of Tacloban is a port city approximately 360 miles southeast of Manila. It is the first in Eastern Visayas to be classified as a Highly Urbanized City. It is the capital of the province of Leyte and is the largest city in terms of population in Eastern Visayas.Tacloban is also the site of the prestigious San Juanico Bridge, which is the longest bridge in the Philippines.
The city is also well known as the site of US General Douglas MacArthur's Leyte Gulf Landing which marked the start of a fierce campaign to regain the Philippines from Japan.
