Volunteer Healthcare Program in Tanzania
Our volunteers in the Healthcare program work in medical clinics, dispensaries and hospitals in and around the city of Moshi. Volunteer tasks vary and depend on the level of experience, qualifications etc. Pre Medical students assist the local doctors and staff in doing basic tasks such as checking weight and temperature of the students, cleaning wounds and also doing administrative tasks in the placement. Whereas medical students are given tasks according to their knowledge, they generally help in checking blood pressure, suturing wounds, doing rounds with patients and work in areas of maternal health, surgery, laboratories, counseling and testing etc.
This program is particularly suited for those volunteers who are interested in health issues and doing ‘hands on’ clinical work.
Volunteers work for around 5-6 hrs in a day for 5 days in a week. Volunteers schedule is flexible and can vary depending on the needs of the placement

Program Requirements Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the beginning of the program. Pre Med, Medical students and Professionals are welcome to join the program. Project Location Volunteer Projects are located in and around the city of Moshi in the Kilimanjaro region. Moshi is situated on the lower slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. The area is very popular among the tourists especially those climbing Mt. Kili. Moshi is home to the Chagga and Masaai tribes. |
| What we provide |
Airport Receive/ Transfer: You will be met by our representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Kilimanjaro region from where you are transferred to the accommodations in Moshi. Volunteers can also arrive in Nairobi and take a direct shuttle or bus to Moshi. They will be picked up at the bus station. Orientation: All volunteers will be provided with an orientation session by the local coordinator. Areas like safety, locations, transportation, things to see etc will be covered in the Orientation.After your orientation is over, you will be introduced to your project. Lodging: Volunteer Accommodation is provided with a local Tanzanian host family in and around the area of Moshi.Living is basic and you will get to experience the local customs, traditions and way of life by living with a host family. Volunteers will be either provided their own room or shared with other volunteers. Food: Volunteers are provided with 2 meals (Breakfast and Dinner) at their accommodation. Typical meals include Ugali, Chapatti, Chai (Tea) , Bread and rice with vegetables and fruits. Insurance: All participants are covered for full comprehensive travel and medical insurance for their time of stay in our project. To view a copy of the Insurance Coverage provided, please click here Pre-departure information: After we receive full and final payment all participants are provided by a pre-departure information booklet by e-mail which will have all vital information about your program. The Pre Departure Information Booklet provides the complete details of the country, project locations, Visas, immunizations, Things to Pack list, Accommodations, Contact Information etc. In-country support: 24 hours support provided by our local staff. You will be provided with the contact details of the local coordinator and staff who will be contactable 24 hrs once you are in country. During your Free Time On the weekends most of the volunteers take Safari trips to nearby national parks and reserves. The most popular parks are Arusha National Park and Serengeti.You can also walk around the city of Moshi. The area is not very big and volunteers love to walk around the area. |
