Volunteer in Health & HIV/AIDS Program

Medical volunteers in this area are given responsibilities depending on their medical qualifications. Volunteers conduct training programs for schools and youth in the communities, design behavior change education and information materials to be used in the schools and the communities. They are also involved in counseling HIV positive people and providing home based for them with a help of a care giver. They are also help in administrative work of the organization they are working with. Qualified doctors and nurses can carry full day to day treatment of various diseases. Medical students work under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Volunteers who do not have medical training help in packing of drugs, painting, and office duties etc. Qualified medical volunteers work in the areas of maternal health, mental health, surgery, laboratories, counseling and testing. Volunteers work in local hospital and clinics. Both student nurses and doctors are welcome. They have to send a letter from their institution to state that they are students in the school or working in the institution.

Volunteer’s life on the field

Volunteering in Ghana is a great experience as the people are one of the friendliest in Africa. Once you get over the initial culture shock of coming and working in Ghana, you will realize that helping the orphans will give you immense satisfaction and you will view life with a different perspective. A typical volunteer helping in medical or HIV clinic will help doctors and nurses on a daily basis treating patients and making them aware of social health problems. Volunteers also work in care homes caring for the daily needs of local patients.
