Volunteers in this area are given responsibilities depending on their medical qualifications. Qualified doctors and nurses can carry full day to day treatment of various diseases. Medical students work under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Volunteers who do not have medical training help in packing of drugs, painting, and office duties etc.
Qualified medical volunteers work in the areas of maternal health, mental health, surgery, laboratories, counseling and testing. Volunteers can work in clinics located in the slums of Nairobi, or hospitals in Nairobi and upcountry.
Volunteer’s life on the field
| Once you get over the initial culture shock of coming and working in Kenya, you will realize that helping in the health centers and clinics will give you immense satisfaction and you will view life with a different perspective. A typical volunteer helping in a clinic would help in daily activities and assist doctors and nurses in which ever way possible. Volunteers also help the patients mentally by being there for them when they are in need. Volunteers also teach the patients about health and hygiene. |
