Overview
Working for the Computer Teaching volunteer program in Cambodia is one of the most rewarding experience for gap year travelers. As Cambodia emerges from its turbulent past, the need for computer skills has increased across all sectors.  Computers are used by NGOs, orphanages and schools to educate and inform the public on both local and international scales. Although computers and internet access is increasingly available, the knowledge necessary to utilize these resources has not kept pace with the technology itself. NGOs rely heavily on volunteers to provide technological assistance and education in computers. Depending upon the requirements, volunteers may be placed with schools, orphanages or NGOs working to educate staff/ public or provide general  IT support. Also, the type of placement and degree of involvement of the volunteers will vary according to their previous experience and the duration of stay for volunteering in Cambodia.

Volunteers may choose to work independently or with a partner; depending on the placement type, work required, and number of participants at the Teaching Computer program in Cambodia.  Volunteers are, also, recommended to bring a laptop to their placement if possible, as most organizations lack funding to provide a computer for every volunteer.

Volunteer tasks under the Teaching Computer Skills program in Cambodia

  • Provide basic computer lessons to the inmates.
  • Support and assist in the administrative work.
  • Design an easy to execute curriculum for the students.
  • Help improve awareness and knowledge about computer and its significance in today’s time.

Really enjoyed working in the Orphanage I would have liked to have more time but we could only manage a few weeks. Was more than we expected and was tough/sad leaving at the end. Orphanage works really well, it seems very well organized and all the staff were admirable..
