Overview
Kerala is rightly described as ‘God’s Own Country’. Located at the southwestern tip of the vast Indian mainland, surrounded by the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, Kerala has a blend of hills, beaches and backwaters.
 
Kerala is also famous for its Ayurvedic treatments, gorges and deep-cut valleys surrounded by the Western Ghats, lush evergreen rain forests, emerald green tea-gardens, exotic spices, coconuts and variety of foods items.
 
This volunteer and travel program in Kerala will enable you to enjoy the beauty of the beaches, calmness of the backwaters and also give you the chance to know about the Malayali customs and get engaged with children at your project site. The tour of Fort Kochi, Munnar and Alleppey will help you to have a close encounter with nature. Enjoy the traditional ‘Kathakali’ performance, and learn the lessons of yoga to refresh your mind and body.
 
The Special 2 Week Program has been designed for those who want to savor the flavors of South India in a nutshell.
 
 
Day 1 (Sunday) – Arrival at Kochivolunteer in kerala
As you arrive, we shall greet you at Kochi International Airport and transfer you to the volunteer house. Pickup timings are between 6 am to 10.30 pm.
After a scenic drive through lush green terrain and crossing the creeks, you will reach the volunteer house located in the serene Fort Kochi area. After getting refreshed and taking some rest, you can take a stroll around the volunteer house.
Meals – dinner at volunteer house, subject to arrival time.
 
Day 2 (Monday) – Orientation Session and Tour of Fort Kochi
After breakfast, we will give you a detailed information about the locality, area, facilities, transport, places of interest, restaurants, recreation and placement.
This orientation session will be very useful for you during your stay. Later in the afternoon, we will take you for a tour of the Fort Kochi area. This will be a combination of a walking tour as well as a tuk-tuk ride, one of the most convenient and economical mode of transport in Fort Kochi.
 
In this tour, you will see Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace, Chinese Fishing Nets, walk along the sea front and the heritage district of Fort Kochi.

Day 3 (Tuesday) to Day 6 (Friday) – Volunteering In Kochi
Your volunteer work will begin on Tuesday. Our program coordinator will accompany you from volunteer house to the program location on the first day to make you familiar with the mode of traveling. Our program coordinator will introduce you to the local people at the project site and also will show you restaurants, shops, ATM, pharmacy etc. near the placement location. During lunchtime, you can go to any nearby restaurant for lunch (at own cost).

Your volunteer work will mainly involve teaching the kids, taking care of little children, and sports coaching for the enthusiasts. You can try introducing fun activities that’ll will help children learn through games.
 
During this week, on one of the evenings, at around 5 PM, we will take you to see the famous “Kathakali” show which is the traditional dance form of Kerala. You can see how the artists prepare themselves for the performance and then you can enjoy this great form art.

Day 7 (Saturday) – Trip to Munnar (4 hours drive)
On Saturday, after breakfast at around 8 am, we will take you to Munnar, one of the most sought after hill retreats in Kerala. You will reach Munnar by 12 noon and after checking in the hotel, you can have lunch at the hotel (at your own cost).
Later, we will take you for a tour of Munnar. We will take you for dinner in a local restaurant where you can enjoy the authentic Malayali cuisine.

Day 8 (Sunday) – Sightseeing in Munnar, Munnar to Alleppey Backwaters (4-5 hours drive)
Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will take you for seeing the places of tourist interest in Munnar.
Later in the day, we’ll check out from the hotel and head towards Alleppey. You can absorb the essence of Kerala on your way to Alleppey.
Check in at the accommodation in Alleppey, enjoy your dinner and relax.

Day 9 (Monday) – Backwater cruise, sightseeing in Alleppey, visit to Marari beach, Alleppey to Kochi, around 1.5 hours drivetravel in kerala to munnar?
At 6.30 am, you will go for a backwater cruise. Feel the serenity of the backwaters and experience the sight of the beautiful flora and fauna and various birds in the backwaters. You will also have a chance to disembark on a small island and you can enjoy local snacks and beverages. Return back to your hotel for breakfast.
 
After checking out from hotel, we will show you other tourist spots in Alleppey like Ravi Karunakaran Museum, Alleppey town etc. You can have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own cost) and then we will take you to see Marari beach near Alleppey. After beach visit, we will transfer you back to your accommodation in Kochi.

Day 10 (Tuesday) to Day 13 (Friday) – Volunteering continues in Kochi
You will continue your volunteering work and gain the rewarding experience.
 
In this week, we will take you for Yoga sessions for 2 days, at around 6 am in morning. Learn the basic yoga skills, which will be really beneficial for you.
You will also have an authentic Ayurvedic massage at Ayurveda Center, once during the program. This will be very refreshing and relaxing for you.
Meals – breakfast and dinner at volunteer house.
 
Day 14 (Saturday) – Program ends
This day is free to relax and to do shopping. You can contact our program coordinator if you would like to arrange for airport drop at an additional cost.
