Tagesausflüge in Phnom Penh

Packing essentials for volunteering in Cambodia
Phnom Penh is a large capital city with many amenities available. If you lose or forget something, you will be able to find a replacement quite easily! However, here are some key items we think you may need:
- A small bum bag to keep your valuables nearby and handy when on the project and in your free time! Nothing worse than having to hold your phone the whole time.
- Insect repellent that contains DEET. Cambodia has a tropical climate, and with that comes insects! If you’re prone to being bitten, a strong insect repellent is always a great addition. DEET is what keeps those pesky bugs away, so make sure you get some that contains it.
What is the best time to volunteer in Cambodia?
Like many other Southeast Asian countries, Cambodia has two seasons., dry and rainy. The dry season runs from November to May, which is when you will experience the best of the sunshine, as well as higher temperatures!
That’s not to say that all throughout the rainy season there is no sun. Both rain and bright weather can happen during either season, so don’t feel let down by either!

Will I have free time to explore Cambodia during my volunteer trip?
Of course! Whilst visiting a new country and city, you will most certainly want to enjoy all of the sights it has on offer. Cambodia is full of incredible landmarks for you to visit!
You can spend your evenings after the project traversing the streets, exploring the markets and other hidden gems in the Cambodian capital. The recent violent history of the country can be seen right in the heart of the city, where you can visit Choeung Ek - The Killing Fields - where millions of Cambodian people lost their lives during the 1970’s. Guided tours and museums will help illustrate this dark past even further, and help you fully appreciate how far Cambodia has come since this time.
Over the weekend, you can enjoy a trip to Angkor Wat, an ancient complex of temples dating back to the 12th century. You will see the marks of history here, with soldiers using the complex as a shelter during the Cambodian Civil War and Khmer Rouge. Bullet holes can be seen from that era.
You can also explore the natural beauty Cambodia has on offer, with a cruise along the mighty Mekong River. You will see the blend of city life and wildlife, and how people live in tandem with the river. We also provide a trip to Sihanoukville, a beautiful beachside town where you can soak up the rays on soft white sand, next to the turquoise waters of the sea.
You really can pack all of this into one trip! Travelling sustainably can include so much more than what you previously thought.
