For IB schools

Service learning that counts towards CAS

Volunteering Solutions runs safe, guided and academically relevant volunteering, experiential learning and service learning programmes for IB school students — ideal for 14–17 year olds. The aim is to extend learning beyond the classroom and help students grow into genuine global citizens through international field experience.

Each programme is built around the CAS module followed by IB schools worldwide, incorporating all three components of Creativity, Activity and Service. Every itinerary is customised to the group’s needs, so students get a culturally immersive, hands-on experience rather than a packaged tour.

Programmes run in more than 20 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America, spanning environmental conservation, wildlife and adventure, cultural exchange and responsible travel.

The three strands

How each trip maps to Creativity, Activity & Service

Every itinerary is designed so students can evidence all three CAS strands — not just the service element.

C

Creativity

Students design and deliver something of their own — murals and artwork for a partner school, workshops and activities for the children they work with, and group problem-solving as the project evolves on site.

A

Activity

Physical, purposeful work: habitat restoration, mangrove planting, painting and renovation, beach cleans, plus treks and nature walks built into the itinerary.

S

Service

The heart of every trip — a genuine community or conservation project run with our in-country teams, with clear learning outcomes students can evidence in their CAS portfolio.

Kenya

Service Learning in Kenya

Kenya’s 42+ tribal groups, spanning 3 of the 4 African language groups, along with its breath-taking landscapes, iconic wildlife, and rapidly modernizing cities make it one of the most diverse countries in Africa. As a nation, Kenya is only 54 years old, meaning that its colonial history, and subsequent independence, are still fresh in the collective mind.  Kenya’s history, its beliefs, its diversity, and its resilience have brought the country to where it is, and will continue to dictate where it heads in the future as a nation.  A country built on Muslim-Arab trade along the coast, Christian missions in the interior, and a primarily agricultural and tourism-driven economy, Kenya is now rapidly changing, providing a fascinating case study for globalization, religious influence on culture, and modernization in a growing economy.

Highlights
  • Providing practical help with projects
  • Interacting with children, care givers and teachers at community children’s centre and home
  • Experiencing diverse Kenyan cultures and practical work experience in a restored African forest boasting one of the highest diversities of indigenous plants and shrubs on the continent.
