Be a volunteer for the Sub-Tropical Beach Conservation Program with Volunteering Solutions in Australia, and create memories that would last for a lifetime. While many people travel to Australia every year, not many get this opportunity to be a responsible traveler. You'll be working with a bunch of enthusiastic ones, guided by a professional conservationist, in Cooloola, located 250 km north of Brisbane in the stunning Great Sandy National Park.
As a volunteer, you'll be helping to protect this magical coastline by collecting and analyzing marine debris, removing weeds and preparing iconic pandanus trees for biological control to protect them from invasive jamella hoppers. It's gonna be an amazing experience and a great learning journey for all you people out there!
The oceans in this region are home to turtles, dugongs and thousands of fish species while the land boasts endless beaches, remnant rainforests, wetlands and iconic Australian bush that provide habitat for over 7,500 species of plants and animals. In winter months keep an eye on the horizon for Humpback Whales migrating north to their breeding grounds.
Day 1 - Get Started With Your Program
You'll meet all the other volunteers in Brisbane, and then start your journey towards Cooloola via Teewah 4 WD Beach (depending on tides). Once we reach Cooloola, we'll set up our camps and have lunch. Our experts will also narrate you about the conservation program in brief.
In the afternoon, you'll start working and your tasks would mainly include debris collection, pandanus cleaning and weed removal.
