What we can and can’t help with
Being honest about the limits — we’d rather set expectations up front:
- We can’t refund your GVI booking. That’s the appointed liquidators. If you paid by credit card, look into a Section 75 claim; debit card, ask about a chargeback; travel insurance may include end-supplier failure cover. Our GVI closure guide has the full checklist.
- We can help you salvage your dates and cause. That’s where we come in.
- Ghana needs longer lead time — visa processing means we can’t hit the 2-week window there.
- Very short notice (under 2 weeks) may not be feasible for some destinations. Ask us and we’ll be honest.
- Flights are your responsibility. Happy to advise, and if your original GVI-linked flight is refundable/rebookable we can work with your dates.

Frequently asked questions
Can you honour my original GVI dates?
In most cases, yes — provided your original GVI departure is at least 2 weeks away. Ghana is the exception (visa processing needs longer). Message us with your dates and we’ll confirm feasibility straight away.
Can I go to the same country I was booked with GVI in?
Often, yes. We run programmes across most of the destinations GVI operated in, including Costa Rica, South Africa, Kenya, Thailand, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, the Philippines and more. If we don’t operate in your original country, we’ll suggest the closest cause-and-region match.
What about my GVI refund?
Refunds are handled by GVI’s appointed liquidators, not by us. Depending on how you paid, you may also be able to claim via Section 75 (credit card), a chargeback (debit card), travel insurance, or ATOL/ABTA protection if your trip was flight-inclusive. What about my flights?
Flights are separate — we don’t sell them. If your original flights are refundable or rebookable, we can work with your dates. If you booked flights through GVI as part of a package, contact the airline directly about credit or rebooking, and check your travel insurance.
How quickly can you confirm?
Once we’ve matched you to a programme, you book and send documents, we confirm within 48 hours. From first enquiry to confirmed placement is typically 3–5 days.
What if I have less than 2 weeks?
Talk to us — some destinations may still be feasible on very short notice, others won’t. We’ll be honest about what we can and can’t deliver.
Do I need any specific qualification?
For most programmes, no — teaching, childcare support, community development and general conservation are open to any adult volunteer aged 18+. Medical and dental placements have professional-qualification requirements; we’ll flag those clearly.
Are you actually a B Corporation?
Yes — you can verify us on the B Corp directory. It’s an independently audited certification covering how we treat volunteers, communities, staff and partners. It’s the specific credential we’d encourage anyone burned by GVI to check for in whichever provider they choose next.
