Volunteer in Ecuador: The Complete 2026-27 Guide
Blog · August 14, 2026 · 2 min read · By Saurabh
Ecuador squeezes the Andes, the Amazon and (budget permitting) the Galápagos into a country you can cross in a day — with our placements split between highland Quito and Puyo, the small city where the mountains tip over into rainforest and our animal-rescue partners work.
Volunteer programs in Ecuador
Childcare and community support in Quito, and dog & animal rescue plus the Amazon Animal Rescue Center placement (from $891) in Puyo, working with wildlife recovered from trafficking. Housing, meals, pickup and 24/7 support included — live prices on the Ecuador programs page. You can also browse related wildlife & animal programs.
How much does volunteering in Ecuador cost?
Program fees include accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation and 24/7 in-country support — the Ecuador page shows live prices in your currency for every duration. Budget separately for flights, insurance and weekend travel. As with all our destinations, longer stays bring the per-week cost down sharply.
When is the best time to volunteer in Ecuador?
Quito’s high-altitude climate is spring-like all year — mornings bright, afternoons changeable. Puyo is warm and rain-fed in every month; that’s what makes it the Amazon’s doorstep. There’s no bad season.
Visas and getting there
Most nationalities enter Ecuador visa-free for up to 90 days. We confirm requirements for your nationality after you apply. Airport pickup is included in every program, and your in-country coordinator confirms arrival details before you fly.
Weekends and travel
Baños — waterfalls, swings over the canyon, hot springs — sits between the two bases and is every volunteer’s first weekend. Then Quilotoa’s crater lake, Otavalo’s market, Mindo’s cloud forest, and the Galápagos for those who extend.
Is it safe, and who can join?
Volunteers live in vetted accommodation with a coordinator on call around the clock, and every placement operates under our safeguarding policy. The minimum age is 17 for most placements with no upper limit — students, career-breakers, families and retirees all join our Ecuador programs. Check our insurance guidance before you book flights.
