Childcare volunteer program in Jaipur India runs all year round. International volunteers get the opportunity to come and help the children in need by playing, teaching and spending time with them.
In Jaipur, you volunteer at a shelter home for vulnerable children, either a boys' shelter for children rescued from child labor or a shelter for girls affected by HIV. Day to day you support the shelter's care-takers, help middle-school children with homework and afterschool activities, teach basic English and arts and crafts, and take part in seminars on topics like hygiene and kindness. The program suits anyone aged 18 and over with an interest in childcare and social support, and no previous experience is required.
Placements run for 1–12 weeks, with starts every week (sundays) and the next start on 20 Sep 2026. You live in a volunteer house in north Jaipur or with a local host family, with three freshly cooked meals a day included, and pay from $599 (deposit included). Volunteer work runs five days a week, leaving weekends free to explore Jaipur or take excursions to the Taj Mahal, Pushkar or Delhi.

Role boundaries
You support the shelter's care-takers and local staff and are never left in sole charge of children; all activities are supervised by shelter staff. Volunteering Solutions does not place volunteers in orphanages, so this placement is a shelter home only, and duties may vary with the placement's needs.
A typical day and week
Volunteers joining the teaching program in India are required to follow a basic routine on a daily basis. This covers everything from meals to volunteer work and back. It must be noted that every school functions at a different pace and on separate timelines making the schedule slightly differ at times. A generic daily schedule for volunteers is as follows;

Saturday: Arrival in Jaipur

Sunday: Orientation presentation and familiarization of the neighborhood. The orientation session will be conducted by the local coordinator, covering topic areas; such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, behavior, food, and other suggestion over things to do in Jaipur.

The placement, its limits and your part in it
This program is based at a shelter home in Jaipur run by a local partner organization, either a shelter for boys rescued from child labor or a shelter for girls affected by HIV. Day-to-day work is organized by the shelter's own care-takers and local staff, with the Jaipur coordinating team overseeing volunteer placements and providing orientation and ongoing support.
Care-takers and local staff supervise all activities involving the children, and volunteers are never left in sole charge of a child. Volunteering Solutions does not place volunteers in orphanages. As a volunteer, your contribution is practical support: extra hands for homework, afterschool activities, English practice, arts and crafts, and helping care-takers with daily routines, rather than a clinical, psychological, or teaching role.

Accommodation & meals
Airport Transfer
Volunteers are picked up from the Jaipur International Airport by a member of the local coordinating team in Jaipur. Participants already in country can also be picked up from the Jaipur Railway Station or Jaipur International Airport. This needs to be communicated beforehand. We also arrange your drop to the airport when the project is completed.
Accommodation
While volunteering in Jaipur you can choose among staying at one of our Volunteer home base in North of Jaipur or with a host family. The accommodations are neat and clean and provide volunteers a home away from home experience. The volunteer home is equipped with WiFi internet, filtered drinking water, geysers, air coolers, washing machine, western toilets and bunk beds. The home is close to useful amenities like banks, ATMs, currency ex-changers, restaurants, cafes and shopping arcades.
Host-families are local Indian welcoming families ready to receive you in their home. Rooms are dual sharing and hosts have common wifi, fridge, cooler, geysers, washing machine and purified water.
All placements are around 20 – 30 minutes from the homes and we help the volunteers use local transport applications such as Uber.
Orientation
A half day orientation will be provided by our staff on the next day after your arrival. We cover areas like culture, greetings, locations, transportation etc.
Meals
Indian food is famous around the world for its diverse flavours, colors and aroma. While staying at the Volunteer home, you would be provided with self-served breakfast and freshly cooked lunch and dinner, we have cooks who work with us from their homes and prepare meals for the volunteers and deliver to our accommodation. A sample of the meals you can expect are mentioned below.
Self-served breakfast – Bread, Tea (chai), Jam, Butter, Porridge, Poha, eggs, etc.
Lunch and dinner – Dal (lentils), vegetable, rice, roti (indian bread), yogurt may be provided along with some sort of curry.
Volunteers staying at home-stays will have a more traditional Indian breakfast like Poha, Paratha, Poori-sabji, toast, etc. while lunch and dinner are same traditional vegetarian food.
During Your Free Time
During the free time volunteers can visit the local markets, visit internet cafes and the different restaurants in Jaipur and try out the different Indian cuisines. During weekends volunteers explore Jaipur or visit Agra, Pushkar, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.

Getting there and who looks after you in India
Airport or station pickup
You arrive in Jaipur on a Saturday and are picked up by a member of the local coordinating team from Jaipur International Airport or Jaipur Railway Station.
First night
You settle into the volunteer house in north Jaipur or your host family's home before starting the program.
Orientation
On Sunday, local staff run a half-day orientation covering culture, greetings, locations, transportation, safety, and other practical suggestions for your time in Jaipur.
First project day
On Monday you make an observation visit to the shelter to see how it runs and meet the local staff, care-takers, and children before volunteer work begins.
Ongoing support
Volunteer work runs Tuesday to Friday, 1pm to 6pm, with 24-hour in-country assistance from the local team throughout your stay.
