Group volunteering abroad, tailored to your group

Since 2007, Volunteering Solutions has hosted more than 25,000 volunteers — rated 4.8/5 on independent reviews — and group trips are where we do our most careful work. Every group gets a dedicated coordinator, a tailored itinerary across 23 destinations, and experienced in-country teams handling accommodation, meals, airport pickups and round-the-clock support, all under our safeguarding and child protection policies.

Travelling as a family? Our family volunteer programs include purpose-built Family Adventures in Malaysia and Sri Lanka from $875, elephant care in Thailand and turtle conservation in Kosgoda — over 30 placements carry our family-suitable tag. Schools can choose structured school group trips with sample itineraries, while 15-18s travelling independently join our teen and high school programs.

For higher education we run university and college group programs — student-led or faculty-led trips built around your discipline — and guided CAS expeditions for IB schools mapped to creativity, activity and service strands. We also host corporate teams and UK institutions travelling through the Turing Scheme.

Funding often goes further than groups expect: our university funding guide covers the Turing Scheme, Erasmus+, travel grants, scholarships and charitable trusts that regularly cover a large share of trip costs for student groups.

Booking is simple: send the group application with your group size, dates and goals — or talk to the groups team first. We propose an itinerary and quote, refine it with you, and one coordinator stays with your trip from first call to flight home.

Planning reading: the group volunteering guidebook, our Africa group planning guide, medical group volunteering, and group trips for charities and CCOs.

Why groups choose Volunteering Solutions

  • One accountable partner. A single coordinator owns your trip from first enquiry to the flight home — one contract, one point of contact, one plan.
  • Real placements, not tourism padding. Groups join the same long-running teaching, childcare, healthcare, conservation and community projects our 25,000+ individual volunteers have supported since 2007.
  • In-country teams at every destination. Local coordinators who have hosted groups for years handle transport, accommodation, meals and the unexpected — around the clock.
  • Policies leaders can show their boards. Our safeguarding policy, child and vulnerable adult protection policy and responsible travel policy apply to every group placement, and we are a certified B Corporation.
  • Budgets that work for institutions. Transparent per-person pricing, group quotes in writing, and a funding guide covering the Turing Scheme, Erasmus+, grants and trusts.

What every group trip includes

Accommodation (volunteer houses, hostels or hotels to suit your group), three meals a day, airport pickup and ground transport, a full pre-departure pack and risk information for leaders, project orientation on arrival, and 24/7 in-country support. Optional extras include weekend excursions and VolunTrips add-on tours — safaris, Taj Mahal visits, island weekends — slotted around project days.

What a group itinerary looks like

Most school and university trips run 7-14 days: arrival and orientation, four to five project days a week alongside our local teams, cultural visits woven between, and a debrief before departure. See worked examples on our school trips and university groups pages — every itinerary is then tailored to your dates, curriculum links and budget. Families travel on the same model at their own pace, from purpose-built Family Adventures to elephant care in Chiang Mai.

Group volunteering abroad: frequently asked questions

How big can a group be?

We regularly host groups from 8 to 40+ participants. Larger groups are split across nearby projects where needed so everyone has meaningful work, while staying together for accommodation and excursions.

How far in advance should we book?

Schools and universities typically confirm 4-9 months ahead to lock preferred dates and flights; families and friend groups can often be arranged in 6-8 weeks. Earlier is always easier for group flights.

Do group leaders travel free?

Leader arrangements are agreed per group as part of your quote — tell us your staffing ratio and we will build it into the proposal.

Can you handle risk assessments and school paperwork?

We provide the documentation leaders need — project details, accommodation information, safeguarding policies and our in-country contacts — to complete institutional risk assessments and parent packs.

Which destinations work best for first-time groups?

Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Kenya and Portugal are our most-booked group destinations — established projects, experienced teams and straightforward logistics. Browse all 23 destinations.
