Meet Lisa Kohlmann, Volunteer in Cape Town, South Africa

Meet Lisa Kohlmann, Volunteer in Cape Town, South Africa

Lisa is a native of Germany and volunteered in the Childcare and Social Welfare Volunteer Project in Cape Town, South Africa with Volunteering Solutions in Oct- Nov 2013. In her interview she talks about her experience of the program

How did you find the experience of Volunteering in South Africa ?

It was a wonderful experience, because I had the opportunity to work with children and to help them at school. I spent a lot of time with them dancing and singing, which is very important for them, because they don't have a lot of money to buy toys. Besides from my social work I had the chance to meet a lot of people from all around the world and to spent time with them exploring the city of Cape Town. We climbed the Table Mountain together, went to the beach and talked about our different nationalities. Because I stayed at a host family I also got to know the South African lifestyle and culture.

What was the major highlight of your trip?

The major highlight was to meet so many people from all over the world.

Has this experience impacted your future in any way?

Yes, it impacted my future. Now I know that I want to become a teacher and that I want to travel to more countries and teach there.

Any advise for future participants ?

My advise for future participants is to be open minded, to make the best of your stay and to explore as much as possible from the country.
